Nitrile, Latex & Vinyl: Which One Should You Choose?

Nitrile gloves give the strongest puncture and chemical resistance and contain no natural latex, making them the safest choice for anyone with a latex allergy. Latex gloves offer the closest, most flexible fit and the best tactile sensitivity, but aren't suitable for latex-sensitive users. Vinyl gloves are the most budget-friendly, latex-free option, best for short, lower-risk tasks rather than prolonged chemical exposure. For genuine PPE use, look for gloves that meet EN 455, which sets requirements for freedom from holes, dimensions and physical strength. Gloves intended for food contact should also carry EN 1186 certification: latex is typically approved for all food types, while vinyl is generally rated for non-fatty foods only. Gloves for chemical handling should meet EN 374, covered in our EN 374 gloves guide. If you need something durable and reusable rather than single-use, browse our Work Gloves range instead.

Disposable Gloves FAQs

What's the difference between nitrile, latex and vinyl disposable gloves?

Nitrile offers the strongest puncture and chemical resistance, latex gives a close, flexible fit but can trigger allergies, and vinyl is a low-cost, latex-free option best for short, low-risk tasks.

Are powder-free gloves better than powdered gloves?

Powder-free gloves are now the standard choice for most workplaces, reducing skin irritation and contamination risk. Powdered gloves grip better but are increasingly restricted in medical and food settings.

What standard should disposable gloves meet?

Disposable gloves used as PPE should meet EN 455, covering holes, dimensions and physical strength. Gloves for chemical handling should also carry EN 374 certification for the relevant protection type.

Can disposable gloves be reused?

No, disposable gloves are designed for single use only. Reusing them lowers their barrier protection and increases contamination risk, so change them between tasks, patients or food handling stages.

Are nitrile gloves suitable if I have a latex allergy?

Yes, nitrile is a synthetic rubber containing no natural latex proteins, making it a safe alternative for latex sensitivity while still offering strong puncture and chemical resistance for demanding tasks.

What size disposable gloves should I order?

Sizes typically range from small to extra large based on hand circumference. A snug fit without excess material at the fingertips gives the best dexterity and reduces tearing during use.

Are Tiger Supplies disposable gloves food safe?

Our latex and vinyl gloves are tested to EN 1186, the food-contact standard: vinyl covers non-fatty foods, latex covers all food types. Always check the individual listing before use.
