The need for fire safety is more apparent now than ever. We recognise that every situation is different, therefore we stock numerous styles of fire safety equipment and accessories. An essential piece of Fire Safety Equipment is a Fire Extinguisher.

All workplaces, schools, and public buildings should have Fire Extinguishers. Thus, at Tiger Supplies, we stock various classes of extinguishers and accessories suitable for both home and work use.

Different extinguishers should be used depending on the type of fire to be tackled. It is therefore of utmost importance to know how fire extinguishers differ in order to avoid making the situation worse in the event of a fire.

There are several types of fire extinguishers and fire classes considering the type of material or fuel used in combustion as can be seen below.

Types of Fire

Kitemark

  • The Kitemark is the symbol that gives the consumer the assurance that the product conforms to the relevant British Standard and is therefore safe to use and reliable.
  • When a product is given the Kitemark symbol, it means that BSI has independently tested it and that it conforms to the relevant standard and legislation.
  • Manufacturers are not required by law to display the Kitemark on their products, but many choose to include this symbol.

Characteristics of our fire extinguishers:

  • Kitemark
  • Meet the BS EN3 standards
  • Corrosion-resistant finish
  • Squeeze grip operation
  • Wall hanging bracket

Our CO2 Fire Extinguisher is effective against class B fires and those involving electrical equipment. The CO2 fire extinguisher is harmless to machinery making it ideal for use in environments such as warehouses and on-site.

The Foam Fire Extinguisher is effective against class A and B fires. Foam fire extinguishers are highly effective with a rapid flame knockdown and do not compromise visibility for safe building evacuation.

The Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher is effective against class A, B and C fires. It is also LPCB and MED-approved.

Finally, the Water Fire Extinguisher is effective against class A and B fires.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing

Service and maintenance

Employers have a legal responsibility under the Fire Safety Order (FSO) to ensure that workplace extinguishers are regularly serviced.  This way, they are kept in good condition and in working order.

To ensure compliance with this legislation, a “responsible person” within your organisation should carry out a visual inspection to confirm that extinguishers have not been damaged or accidentally discharged. Inspections should be carried out monthly and no more than quarterly.

Initial and annual commissioning and servicing should evaluate:

  • Suitability of location
  • Accessibility
  • Visibility
  • Pressure to gauge level
  • Extinguishers are in working order

If your business employs five staff members or more, it is advisable to hold written records of all service, maintenance and inspections. You should record this in a Fire Log Book.

Tiger Supplies offers fire extinguisher commission and service. Extinguishers can only be serviced once they are at their final destination.

We also offer other fire safety products. Fire Alarms and Detectors, Fire Trolleys, and Fire Extinguisher Cabinets and Covers are also available.
